Three Museum of History Employees Win NCThinks Award

Pictures is one of the many artifact dollies created on site by Matt Neel, Bobby Foil, and Jan Sweatt. The team created these custom dollies for some of the historical artifacts stored at the museum. Many of these artifacts are incredibly heavy and other are very fragile which make the transportation of them rather cumbersome and painstaking, at times. By creating these custom artifact dollies these state treasures receive less wear and tear and can be safely and efficiently moved from one location to another.


Click this thumbnail to view full size photo.This is an antique Thomas Day couch stored at the NC Museum of History on one of the custom dollies created by the NCThinks award winners. Most museums spend thousands of dollars for the purchase of custom dollies like this. However, Matt Neel, Bobby Foil, and Jan Sweatt were able to identify scrap materials on site and create the dollies from these reclaimed materials saving the museum and the State from having to incur such expenses and minimizing the number of employees it takes to move these pieces from place to place.
